Dave Thompson

Thompson’s music business career began in 1975 and over the last forty years he’s worked with key international labels, including Arista, Chrysalis, Interscope, J Records, Jive/Zomba, MCA/Geffen and RCA.

He’s also conceptualised and coordinated promotional and marketing campaigns for artists such as Alicia Keys, Avril Lavigne, Bob Dylan, Britney Spears, Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera, David Bowie, Elvis Presley, Guns and Roses, Jay Z, Nirvana, Pink, Puff Daddy, R Kelly, Toni Braxton, Usher and Whitney Houston.

Dave spent 17 years as the A&R Marketing Director for Sony Music Africa and has been the music coordinator for the popular South African reality shows Big Brother, Fear Factor, Project Fame and, of course, Idols, where he was a key judge from 2002 until 2009. Always a supporter of South African talent, he’s also been the Executive Producer for over 100 SAMA Award finalists and winners.

Keith Lister

Keith’s history in the music business dates back to 1988, when he founded Lister Media Consultancy, focusing on the legal side of the industry.

He holds a BA LLB degree from Wits University and practised as an attorney from 1973 until 1991, specialising in media and security laws.

However, his influence on the music industry was never limited to exclusively legal representation. He served as CEO for South Africa’s biggest record label, Sony BMG/Sony Music from 1992 until 2011. His key role was to guide talented creative artists to make records that would impact South African music. Keith has worked with a large number of artists, such as Vusi Mahlasela, TKZee, Just Jinger, Judith Sephuma, Lira and many more.

Keith has been able to develop structures for the South African music industry as a whole, and his success speaks for itself. He has served on the boards of some of the most influential organisations in the country, such as the SAMAs (South African Music Awards), RISA (Recording Industry South Africa) and SAMPRA (South African Music Performance Rights Association. Now, in 2016, Keith has joined forces with Dave Thompson (who was his partner when they worked at Sony BMG) to take Boom.Studio to new heights.
